ZIGGY & RONA SPICER – Dog Photography in WEST SUSSEX

Client of the Month

Gemma asked me if I could photograph her two rescue dogs Rona & Ziggy and I jumped at the opportunity because they are both stunning! We met at Blakehurst Woods, near Arundel, West Sussex and were blessed with good weather.

Gemma understandably kept both dogs on a lead—they started life as strays in European countries, and despite her incredible training, there’s always the potential for unpredictability. They’re also very active, curious dogs and not keen on staying still! But with patience and good posing skills, I captured some beautiful moments. Gemma picked her two favourites, and I headed home to create art!

Below the final retouched images, are the original, straight-out-of-camera shots of Rona and Ziggy—before any editing magic happened! These show just how much creative retouching can transform an image. Here, I removed collars, leads, and even Gemma from the photos. I think you’ll agree—it’s like they were never there!

I loved seeing how Rona and Ziggy’s personalities came through in the photos, capturing just how happy and settled they are in their new lives. When I hand-delivered Gemma’s framed portraits a couple of weeks later, she was genuinely moved.

Now, they sit proudly on her sideboard, the first thing she sees when she walks into her living room—a daily reminder of our special session together.

Thank you, Gemma! I absolutely loved photographing Rona and Ziggy. You’ve done such an incredible job with them, and it’s so heartwarming to see how much love and care you’ve given them. They’re so lucky to have you and your family!

Here’s what Gemma said about her photography experience:

Joanna photographed my 2 dogs (at the same time). She is so friendly, patient and good natured.

My dogs (both rescues) can be hard around other dogs and scared of other humans, but Joanna had them both posed beautifully and was so gentle they really warmed to the session and myself being there the whole time too, they were both so happy. You can see it in the photos.

The session was well organised, Joanna sees the potential in the surroundings and the dog’s most comfortable stances and goes from there.

The photos are stunning and EVERYONE comments on them when they enter the house, as well as seeing the dogs!
